The recruitment journey for Senior Assistant posts under PSSSB is designed as a multi‑stage evaluation to ensure merit‑based selection. Each stage must be cleared to move forward.

1. Stage 1 – Written Test: Candidates will face an objective exam with multiple‑choice questions. Each correct answer earns one mark, while incorrect responses attract a penalty of 0.25 marks. The detailed syllabus and exam pattern will be released separately, and scores from this stage form the basis of the merit list.
2. Stage 2 – Typing Assessment: A qualifying test in both English and Punjabi typing is required, with a speed of 30 words per minute on computer. Punjabi typing must be done in Unicode‑compliant Raavi font. This stage is qualifying only and does not add to the merit score. Candidates recruited through Punjabi medium are exempt from this test.
3. Stage 3 – Document Verification & Counselling: Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present original certificates, including educational qualifications, category proof, domicile, age verification, and NOC (if applicable). This step ensures authenticity of credentials.
4. Stage 4 – Final Recommendation: Names from the common merit list will be forwarded to departments for appointment. The merit list remains valid until 30 September 2026, covering vacancies reported up to that date. In case of a tie, preference is given by date of birth (older first), followed by higher academic percentage, and then matriculation marks.
