Criterion Details
Nationality & Domicile Candidate must be a citizen of India and domiciled in the State of Maharashtra.
Stenographer (Higher Grade) University Degree (relaxable for 5 years’ Lower Grade Stenographer experience in court/tribunal/AG/GP office); English Shorthand 100 w.p.m., English Typing 40 w.p.m. with GCC/GCC-TBC/ITI certificates; Computer proficiency as per Government resolutions; preference for Law graduates; knowledge of Marathi.
Stenographer (Lower Grade) University Degree (relaxable with 3 years stenography experience); English Shorthand 80 w.p.m., English Typing 40 w.p.m.; GCC/GCC-TBC/ITI and computer proficiency certificates; preference for Law degree; knowledge of Marathi.
Clerk Graduate degree from recognised University (Law graduates preferred); English Typing 40 w.p.m. (GCC / GCC-TBC / ITI) and computer knowledge as per Govt. resolutions; ability to speak, read and write Marathi.
Staff Car Driver Minimum SSC (10th) or equivalent; valid LMV driving licence as per Motor Vehicles Act; at least 3 years’ experience in driving LMV / HMV; good driving record; knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair; ability to read, write and speak Marathi and Hindi.

Step Application Process
Step 1 Visit the official website https://bombayhighcourt.nic.in/index.php and open the Recruitment section.
Step 2 Read the respective detailed notification for the post you are applying to: Stenographer (Higher/Lower Grade), Clerk, Staff Car Driver or Peon/Hamal/Farash.
Step 3 First pay the examination fee of ₹1000/- using the SBI Collect online payment gateway and obtain the SB Collect reference number.
Step 4 Go back to the Recruitment page and click on the appropriate “Apply Online” link for your desired post and establishment (Mumbai, Nagpur or Aurangabad).
Step 5 Fill in personal details, correspondence address, contact details, educational qualifications, experience, language skills and other required information carefully.
Step 6 Upload a recent passport-size photograph and signature (JPG/JPEG formats, max 40 KB each) in the specified dimensions in the application form.
Step 7 Enter the correct SBI Collect reference number in the fee details section. If the number does not match, the application will be rejected.
Step 8 Select only one establishment (Principal Seat Mumbai, Nagpur Bench or Aurangabad Bench). This cannot be changed after submission.
Step 9 Verify all details, read the declaration carefully, tick “I Agree” and submit the online application form.
Step 10 Note down the Registration ID number and take a printout of the application using the “Print Application” option. Paste the same photograph and sign in black pen in the specified spaces.
Step 11 Do not send the printout or documents to the Registry at the application stage. Keep them safely for document verification and future instructions.

Exam Pattern – Bombay High Court Recruitment 2026

Stenographer (Higher Grade) Shorthand Test, Typing Test, Viva-voce Shorthand Test – 40 marks (500-word English dictation in 5 minutes, transcription in 30 minutes, minimum 24 marks).
Typing Test – 40 marks (400-word English passage in 10 minutes, minimum 20 marks).
Viva-voce – 20 marks.
Only candidates qualifying Shorthand Test are eligible for Typing Test; only those qualifying Typing Test are called for Viva-voce.
Stenographer (Lower Grade) Shorthand Test, Typing Test, Viva-voce Shorthand Test – 40 marks (400-word English dictation in 5 minutes, transcription in 25 minutes, minimum 20 marks).
Typing Test – 40 marks (400-word English passage in 10 minutes, minimum 20 marks).
Viva-voce – 20 marks.
Shorthand and typing tests conducted on computer; only qualifiers proceed to next stages.
Clerk Screening Test, Typing Test, Viva-voce Screening Test – 90 marks, 1 hour, objective MCQs on Marathi, English, General Knowledge, General Intelligence, Arithmetic and Computer; minimum 45 marks to qualify.
Typing Test – 20 marks (400-word English passage in 10 minutes, minimum 10 marks).
Viva-voce – 40 marks.
Candidates failing in Screening or Typing Test will not be considered for next stage.
Staff Car Driver Written Exam, Experience Marks, Motor Vehicle Test, Interview Written Exam – 20 marks (objective questions on vehicle maintenance, minor repairs, city topography and general knowledge; minimum 7 marks).
Experience – 10 marks.
Motor Vehicle Test (through RTO officers) – 10 marks (minimum 7 marks).

Selection Procedure – Bombay High Court Recruitment 2026

Stage Process & Details
Stage 1: Online Application & Fee Payment Candidates submit online applications between 15 December 2025 and 05 January 2026 and pay the non-refundable fee via SBI Collect.
Stage 2: Scrutiny & Shortlisting Applications are scrutinised through a computerised programme. The Selection Committee may adopt appropriate shortlisting methods and decide cut-offs for different stages.
Stage 3: Written / Shorthand / Typing / Skill Tests Candidates appear for respective tests – Screening Test, Shorthand Test, Typing Test, Written Exam, Motor Vehicle Test, Physical & Skill Tests – as applicable to the post.
Stage 4: Viva-voce / Interview Candidates who qualify the prescribed tests are called for Viva-voce / Interview. Eligibility is again checked at this stage based on documents and performance.
Stage 5: Document Verification Shortlisted candidates must present original documents and self-attested copies for verification. Any discrepancy or false information leads to disqualification.
Stage 6: Select List & Wait List Post-wise Select Lists and Wait Lists are prepared in order of merit based on total marks. Lists remain valid for 2 years from publication, subject to extension by the Hon’ble Chief Justice.
Stage 7: Appointment & Probation Appointment is subject to medical examination and police verification. Selected candidates are initially appointed on probation for 2 years; services can be terminated without notice during probation.
